William H. (Rebecca2, John1) was born Aug. 8, 1835, in Cleveland, Ohio. His early years were spent in Cleveland. He learned the tinner's trade. He also worked on the canal on the boat of his brother George W. Burroughs. In 1855 he went to Lafayette, Ind. Here he was married on Nov. 19, 1857, to Sarah C. Vaughn. She was the daughter of Edward and Eleanor Vaughn and was born Feb. 2, 1836, in Fredericksburg, Md. Mr. Burroughs died Dec. 23, 1858, aged 23 years 4 1/2 months.
Afterward Mrs. Burroughs married Mr. Leonidas Huff, and after this marriage her life was spent on a farm near Lafayette. She died Jan. 18, 1910. Mr. Huff died Dec. 31, 1910.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Burroughs.

Clayton W., (William3, Rebecca2, John1) only child of William H. and Sarah C. Burroughs, was born September 30, 1858, at Lafayette, Ind. His young father died when Clayton was three months old.
He says: "Of my early life I remember little. My mother kept me with her and when I was old enough to go she sent me to the district school. I attended school until 1874, when my school days ended. My early years were spent on the farm with my mother. After my marriage I became a tenant farmer and continued in that occupation till 1893.
I then secured employment in the shops of the Monon Railroad Co. I remained there till 1911. I was then appointed sheriff of Tippecanoe Co., Ind., and am still serving in that capacity."
He was married Aug. 10, 1881, to Elizabeth Burkhardt, who was born Oct. 4, 1861, in Lafayette. She was the daughter of David and Margaret Burkhardt. Mr. Burroughs is a member of the Independent Order of Eagles and is filling the highest office in the gift of the Lodge in Lafayette, where he now resides.

William D., (Clayton4, William3, Rebecca2, John1) the first child of Clayton W. and Elizabeth Burroughs, was born Jan. 23, 1883, near Lafayette, Ind. His boyhood was spent on the farm and he attended the district school. He is a boilermaker by trade. On Nov. 17, 1908, he was married to Nellie Blanche Zollman, at Des Moines, Iowa. She was born at Schuyler, Neb., and was the daughter of James M. and Harriet Carter Zollman.
William D. Burroughs is a member of the following orders: Red Men, Elks, Masons, Boilermakers of America.
He resides in Lafayette.
He has no children.

Mary Elizabeth, (Clayton4, William3, Rebecca2, John1) daughter of Clayton W. and Elizabeth Burroughs, was born July 17, 1885, near Lafayette, Ind. Her childhood was spent on a farm. In 1893 her father moved to Lafayette. Here she secured a position as saleslady. She was married to Bruce H. Schumaker, July 22, 1911. He is a railway trainman on the Monon R. R. Their home is in Lafayette.
They have no children.

John E., (Clayton4, William3, Rebecca2, John1) second son of Clayton W. and Elizabeth Burroughs, was born Oct. 27, 1887, on a farm in the vicinity of Lafayette, Ind. In 1893 his father's family removed to Lafayette. Here he attended the public schools. He became a railway trainman on the Wabash R. R. and was killed Dec. 2, 1908, while engaged in the performance of duty. He was a member of the Order of Railway Trainmen.

Eleanor Frances, (Clayton4, William3, Rebecca2, John1) daughter of Clayton W. and Elizabeth Burroughs, was born Mar. 16, 1888, near Lafayette, Ind. When she was five years old the family moved into Lafayette. Having graduated from the grammar school, she spent one year in high school. She then attended business college and became a stenographer.
On June 6, 1910, she became the bride of Allison E. Dove, of Chicago. He is a barber by occupation. Their home is in Chicago. Mrs. Dove is a member of the Baptist church.
There are no little Doves.

Anna C., (Clayton4, William3, Rebecca2, John1) was born Feb. 19, 1890, on a farm near Lafayette, Ind. Here she graduated from the grammar school, and afterward secured a position as saleslady. She is a member of the Baptist Church. She was united in marriage on Sept. 21, 1910, with William J. Finnegan. He is a conductor on the Monon R. R. Their home is in Lafayette.

Clarence J.,(Clayton4, William3, Rebecca2, John1) son of Clayton W. and Elizabeth Burroughs, was born Sept. 23, 1893, in Lafayette, Ind. He graduated from the eighth grade and was then apprenticed to learn the boilermaker's trade. He is now (1913) serving his fourth year as apprentice.

Edna F., (Clayton4, William3, Rebecca2, John1) youngest daughter of Clayton W. and Elizabeth Burroughs, was born May 30, 1895, in Lafayette, Ind. She is a pupil in the Jefferson High School at Lafayette and is in her second year (1913).
